Celebrities often exude a natural confidence and poise, whether they're stepping onto a red carpet or sitting down for a major interview. While years in the spotlight certainly help, some stars developed this adaptability long before they were famous. For many, this resilience comes from growing up in a military family—an upbringing where staying in one place for too long just wasn't part of the plan.
You might be surprised to learn which of your favorite stars are actually "military brats." Read on to see who makes the list!
3 Celebrities With a Military Upbringing
Just like current military kids, these celebrities spent their childhoods navigating constant change, moving across countries, and switching schools. The only difference is that these military kids grew up to be household names.

1. Jessica Alba
Actress and entrepreneur Jessica Alba spent her early years on the move thanks to her father, Mark, who served in the U.S. Air Force.
"My mother was 18, and he wanted to get an education, and he wanted to support his family, and so the military allowed him to do that," Alba shared.
Though born in California, her father's career took the family to various bases, including stints in Biloxi, Mississippi, and Del Rio, Texas. Alba fondly remembers her formative years between the ages of 5 and 9 at Laughlin Air Force Base.
"I was really sad to leave when my dad decided to get out of the military," she told Fortune, adding that the base provided a safe environment where "everyone becomes your family."
The Alba family's military roots run deep, too. Her brother also served, and her maternal grandfather was a Marine during World War II.

2. Julianne Moore
Academy Award-winning actress Julianne Moore is a true military kid, born at Fort Bragg, a U.S. Army installation in North Carolina. Her father served as a military judge, which meant her family rarely stayed in one place for long, spending a significant portion of her childhood in Germany.
Constantly adapting to new schools and cultures actually helped Moore hone her craft.
"When you go to another town, and people have other kinds of behaviors, that doesn't mean that they're different from you," she explained in a blog post.
"It just means their behavior is different, so you're always looking at behavioral differences, and then you're looking for a universality of experience."

3. Pink
"I have seen the rain. I've survived the pain. Oh, I've been home 30 years or so, and I'm just stepping off the plane..."
Pop icon Pink wrote and performed these lyrics alongside her father, James Moore, an Air Force Veteran who served in Vietnam. The song poignantly reflects the struggle of adjusting to civilian life after military service.
Her family's dedication to the armed forces doesn't stop there; her brother, Jason Moore, is a retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel who served with the USAF Thunderbirds and completed tours in Afghanistan and at the Pentagon.
Deeply committed to giving back, Pink and her husband, Carey Hart, actively raise funds for the military community. Through Hart's charity motorcycle event, "Good Ride," the couple donates proceeds to the Infinite Hero Foundation.
As Pink perfectly summarized in an interview:
“At the end of the day, it’s not political. These are the people that are sacrificing time with their children and time with their families to defend freedom... and in their minds, it’s always for the right reason.”

While constantly uprooting your life never truly becomes easy, it does become something you know how to handle. For stars like Julianne Moore, this constant adjusting actually paved the way for a successful acting career.
Ultimately, the unique challenges of being a military kid didn't hold these celebrities back—they prepared them for the extraordinary lives they lead today.
